When you and I were born, we were born with a lot of
needs—food and water, care, clothes, a place to live. If you think about it, almost
all of the things we need we can provide for ourselves. There’s another basic need
that everyone is born with. The need for something bigger than this world. Food, clothes,
a place to live, money, possessions, sex, alcohol, drugs and a career are all things that
seem to fulfill the need for something bigger than this world, but they only make us feel
better temporarily. And eventually these things are all gone or don’t make us feel
good any more.
Actually, there’s only one thing that will fulfill
that need for something bigger than this world. It’s the one true, Living God, our
Heavenly Father. He can give us what nothing on this earth can—eternal life. The
chance to live forever—and not like we live here (thank God). It’s the kind of
life where there’s no pain, suffering, crying, death, dissatisfaction,
disappointment—there’s only happiness, peace and love. Sounds pretty good
doesn’t it?
Of course, like everything else, there are rules.
Actually, there’s only one rule. You can only have eternal life one way—not by
doing something spectacular or just being a good person or staying out of trouble. That
will help you get along in this world, but it won’t help you have eternal life.
Two thousand years ago, something very important
happened. In order for you and me to have eternal life, we need to have a relationship
with our Heavenly Father. The only way to have a relationship with God is to be free from
sin. The only way to be free from sin is to pay for the mistakes you’ve made and the
wrong you’ve done in your life.
Guess what! Someone has already paid for your sin.
It’s Jesus Christ. Because He loves you so much, God sent himself in the form of a
man—Jesus Christ—to this earth to pay the debt for your sin by dying on a cross
for you. If you believe that in your heart and confess it with your mouth, you can have
that relationship with God and you can have the free gift of eternal life. The cost of
having eternal life has already been paid for by Jesus Christ. It’s yours for the
asking, free of charge.
Stop what you’re doing and pray a prayer to God.
Tell Him you know you’re a sinner, and that you believe in what Jesus did for you,
and that you want the gift of eternal life. If you’re sincere, then God’s
sincere.
Congratulations!!
You’re now a Christian, and you now have eternal
life.
